Africa Support Letter

February 3, 2012
Dear Friends and Family,

Hello! I hope everything is going well with you.  Amber and I have nearly reached our year and a half mark of marriage and love what the Lord is doing in and through us. One such instance is Him forming our hearts more and more for missions. Our continual prayer for our marriage is to be fully available to be used by God whenever and wherever he chooses. With that said, we are very excited about an opportunity God has opened up for us this summer!  After applying and interviewing with AIM (Africa Inland Mission) we have prayerfully selected a mission assignment in Tororo, Uganda, where we will be serving orphaned African children.  We are constantly seeking to grow closer to God, and to actively share His heart for those in need around the world – this mission is a wonderful opportunity to do just that.
This coming summer, June 11th – August 3rd, we will join a team of 6 who will be heading to SMILE Africa Ministries. Our team will be running sports camps for the children served there. Smile is a drop-in day care center for vulnerable children located in Tororo, Uganda. Over 450 children are fed and cared for every day, and widows are taught economic skills amidst being part of a safe, loving environment.  Many are from the Karamojong tribe, among Africa’s poorest people group.  We are blessed and humbled that God would choose us to serve Him in this way.
We are currently in preparations for our trip, and there is much to do. Our orientation is June 11th, and we will return by August 3rd to resume school in the fall. With this letter, we not only wanted to update you on what's going on, but we wanted to kindly request your prayer and financial support, giving you who are not able to physically go to the children of Africa the opportunity to share with us in the blessing of caring for them. They are precious to God!
During our time in Uganda, we are praying to be a vessel of God’s love to the children. We pray that God will break our hearts for the things that breaks His and that through this experience we will grow in compassion. We have sensed for a long time that God wants us in Africa permanently, so this trip will also serve as our prayer to know if that truly is His will for us. Lastly, we pray to be transformed through this experience, more into the likeness of Jesus Christ.
The cost of our trip is $10,372 for the both of us, which covers travel, insurance, living expenses, and supplies. Please pray about being a part of our financial support base. Support is due to the AIM office by May 7th. Please make your check out to Africa Inland Mission and although it will be sent to us first, please do not put our names on the check, as AIM is non-profit. We will take all the checks and pass them on to AIM for our mission fund, and you will receive a receipt in the mail from AIM for a tax deduction. Thank you in advance!

In His Love,
